Mummy Queen Costume

The Mummy Queen Costume would make a great costume for Halloween, especially a Halloween party, as it looks good but also has that element of creepiness and macabre that is in keeping with this traditional holiday.

Although this is not quite a Pharaoh costume you could say it is inspired by the outfit that a Pharaoh or his Queen may have been dressed in once they had died. For Egyptians, being in the right attire for your journey into the afterlife was very important. They believed that your body had to be prepared correctly and this involved wrapping it in cloth or bindings. And then placed in a Sarcophagus.

The Mummy would also have various trinkets, food and a book, known as the “book of the dead”. They needed this book because they would face an ordeal at the hands of the God Osiris. They would be tested to see if they were free from sin and many of the answers were believed to be in the book of the Dead. So if they forgot the answers they could always have a quick look at the book, so the thinking went.

So the Mummy wrap and all the accompanying bits and pieces that went with it was a very important part of getting into the afterlife safely. Consequently, this type of process was generally reserved for Pharaohs and their families and high ranking people in Ancient Egyptian society.

So what can you expect with the Mummy Queen Costume ? Well this is an adult costume, in that there are no sizes for kids in this particular type of costume (there are plenty of other kids mummy costumes though). The main part of the costume is a dress that looks like the bindings that a mummy might wear. The dress is made of a stretchy fabric so it fits most body shapes. There are gold braiding trim below the bust line and the waist to give the dress a bit of definition.

You also receive a belt, collar and headpiece. All these accessories give you that Egyptian look so that people won’t be in any doubt about who or what you are. For instance the scarab beetle  relief is a recurring theme on each of these items. The scarab beetle was revered in Ancient Egypt and thus will give you that Egyptian look.

You can also get a wig, as in the picture, if you really want to look the part but a wig doesn’t come with this costume.

However this is a great looking costume that is sure to be original and get you noticed at the Halloween party or and other social occasion where you can dress up.
