Classic Mummy Child Costume

Classic Mummy Child CostumeThis is a great costume for spooky Halloween. It seems a long time ago that horror films were made about Mummies like this walking a round scaring people. I guess we have moves on from those times, but the prospect of meeting one of the living dead still seems to be good subject material for horror movies if the spate of zombie movies is anything to go by.

This classic Mummy Child Costume is a bit like a zombie in fine white bandages. It consists of a jumpsuit with white bandages attached to it. The jumpsuit fits all over the body with holes for the hands, feet and neck. The bandages are more frayed around the hands and feet so that you can cover the hands and feet if needed.

There is a hood which also has the frayed bandage design to it. The hood covers the head and parts of the bandages fit across the face, over the nose and chin. This leaves your eyes and moth free so that you can see what is going on and breath, talk, laugh or wail like a mummy might do.

You may even consider adding some ghoulish makeup to the exposed parts of your face to make it look more realistic as a revivified mummy. Practice your lurching walk with arms akimbo if you really want to look the part.

This costume will really go down well for trick or treating or a dress up Halloween party.

The origins of the mummy go back to ancient civilizations, most notably the ancient Egyptian civilization. It is a typical pharaoh costume as they make their journey into the afterlife. Other high ranking officials of the civilization, like priests, might also be mummified. This costume is given the classic moniker because it is not doubt inspired by the old horror film made in the 1930s by Boris Karloff. He also did Frankenstein and Dracula pictures and was the undisputed king of the horror movie in his time.

This movie was made at the time when the Tutankhamen tomb had just been discovered and there were all sorts of myths about curses being placed on the archeologists that had opened the tombs. This inspired the horror theme about Egyptian mummies but in reality the curse was a complete fabrication and there were no horrible deaths or unexplained incidents occurring. It was just a great story which Hollywood fastened onto.

This fascination with ancient Egypt is still current today with the recent release of new Mummy films and the Scorpion king movie.

This looks like a fun costume that kids would enjoy to dress up in. I see in the picture the kid even has the mummy walk down to a tee. I wonder where you learn how to walk like a mummy ? I first saw it in the Scooby Doo cartoon but I’m sure there are other places to learn this crucial skill if you want to look like and authentic mummy :)
